Gift of Life’s Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) is a voluntary home visitation program for first-time moms who are pregnant 28 weeks or less. NFP Nurse Supervisor Kathy Bishop explains how the program connects first-time pregnant moms with a free, personal nurse who becomes a trusted resource they can rely on during and after pregnancy.

More About Nurse-Family Partnership

Nurse-Family Partnership moms benefit by getting the care and support they need to have a healthy pregnancy from a free, registered nurse who visits them from pregnancy until their baby is two years old.

An NFP nurse will help a mother:

  • Make her home a safe place for baby to grow and play

  • Get referrals for healthcare, childcare, job training and other support services that are available in the community

  • Set goals for her family’s future and find ways to help her achieve them.

New mothers develop a close relationship with their nurse who becomes a trusted resource they can rely on for advice on everything from safely caring for their child to taking steps to provide a stable, secure future for them both. Through the partnership, the nurse provides new mothers with the confidence and the tools they need not only to assure a healthy start for their babies, but to create opportunities for success for themselves.

PROGRAM BENEFITS:

  • A personal nurse with you offering flexible visits

  • A focus on improved prenatal health and pregnancy outcomes

  • Education and support on breastfeeding, immunizations, birth spacing and developmental milestones
